There will be a minimum of one post-operative follow up(s) after your surgery. The timescale from your surgery to your first follow up will depend on the type of surgery you had but in most cases this would be 4-6 weeks after your surgery. You will receive more detailed information while still in hospital, before you are discharged home. The purpose of this post-operative follow up is:
To ensure you are well in yourself and your surgical wounds are healing nicely
To review and discuss with you the results of your histology report if your surgery involved removal of any tissue or organ
To ensure that you are fit and well enough to resume normal activities
To discuss with your doctor any issues/concerns/questions you might have
You would normally be discharged from the surgical clinic after this appointment.
TIP: It is a good idea to keep a record of your symptoms and to write down any questions that might cross your mind in the immediate post-operative period. This will greatly facilitate your discussion with your doctor in your post-operative appointment and you will be able to ask all the questions you have.
