Mr Panagiotis Drymousis is a highly accomplished Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon, specialising in surgical care at Whittington Hospital NHS Trust in North London.
He obtained his medical degree from the University of Athens Medical School. Following the completion of his compulsory military service, he began his surgical training at Hippocration Hospital in Athens—one of the university hospitals affiliated with the University of Athens Medical School. During this time, he received comprehensive training in General and Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery.
After completing his training in Greece, Mr Drymousis moved to the UK to undertake advanced training in HPB surgery. He was appointed Senior Clinical Fellow in HPB Surgery at Hammersmith Hospital, London, where he spent two years honing his expertise in this highly specialised area.
He also completed a PhD focusing on complex upper GI procedures and the management of related complications, which he successfully defended, graduating with honours from the University of Athens. He later secured a prestigious Marie Curie European Scholarship, further advancing his training and research in HPB and neuroendocrine surgery.

Mr Drymousis has broad surgical expertise, including the diagnosis and treatment of dyspepsia, gallstone disease, biliary disorders, and all forms of hernia surgery—both open and laparoscopic. He plays a key leadership role in the Rapid Access Clinic at Whittington Hospital, an ambulatory care service that streamlines diagnosis and treatment, reduces hospital stays, and improves the overall patient journey.
Passionate about education, Mr Drymousis is deeply involved in training the next generation of doctors and surgeons. He is a faculty member for training days and hands-on courses run by the Royal College of Surgeons and other surgical and academic institutions. He also contributes as a faculty member to the College’s Intermediate Laparoscopic Skills Course and Basic Surgical Skills Course.
In addition to his clinical commitments, Mr Drymousis remains active in research. He regularly presents at national and international conferences and delivers lectures at leading scientific events.
His clinical interests include gallstones and biliary pathology, complex abdominal wall hernias, abdominal wall reconstruction, pancreatitis (diagnosis, acute management, and definitive care), pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours, and day-case and ambulatory surgery. He is particularly focused on improving acute surgical pathways, promoting surgical ambulation, and implementing enhanced recovery protocols for day-case procedures.
